McConnell v. FEC

Court Type: U.S. Supreme Court
Status: Closed (Judgment)
Last Update: December 10, 2003

What's at Stake

Reviewing campaign finance law. DECIDED

Summary

This case challenges the constitutionality of key provisions of the 2002 McCain-Feingold campaign finance law. Among other things, the law would prohibit the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵfrom broadcasting a radio or TV ad criticizing the civil liberties position of either the President or his opponent in the 60 days preceding next year's election. The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵargues in its brief that this restriction on so-called issue ads violates the First Amendment.
