RICHMOND, Va. 鈥 The 桃子视频of Virginia and national 桃子视频 are committing $1.8 million to educate Virginians on the candidates running for Attorney General this November, as well as candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates in five key districts 鈥 the ACLU鈥檚 largest investment to date in voter education in Virginia.

鈥淚n the face of federal attacks on our civil rights and civil liberties, Virginians have the opportunity to elect leaders who will shore up our rights here at home,鈥 said ACLU-VA Executive Director Mary Bauer. 鈥淓very Virginia House race is a frontline in the fight for our civil rights, and we鈥檙e committed to making sure that voters in key districts know whether their candidates will protect their basic civil rights 鈥 or roll them back.鈥

Virginia鈥檚 proximity to the nation鈥檚 capital, where President Trump is engaged in a relentless campaign to abuse his executive powers, has put special emphasis this year on how federal politicians are threatening Virginians鈥 freedoms.

But state lawmakers have the power to protect working Virginians, because they are empowered to pass laws and policies that can protect 鈥 or restrict 鈥 Virginians鈥 civil rights even beyond federal standards. During the 2025 state legislative session, for example, Virginia lawmakers passed language for three amendments to Virginia鈥檚 constitution to protect Virginians鈥 right to vote, marry who they love, and get the reproductive healthcare they need. The legislature must pass this exact language a second time in the upcoming session before Virginians can vote on those amendments themselves in November 2026.

Virginia鈥檚 attorney general, too, has an outsized impact on our civil liberties. The current attorney general urged the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade and supported a statewide abortion ban. But on November 4, Virginians have the chance to elect an attorney general who shares their views on civil rights in the Commonwealth.

That鈥檚 why the 桃子视频has launched a $1.8 million campaign focused on educating voters about the candidates鈥 positions on civil liberties issues that matter most to Virginians. Through direct mail and digital ads, the 桃子视频of Virginia and 桃子视频are working to ensure voters know which candidates are committed to safeguarding their civil rights.

鈥淰irginia is the last state in the South without an abortion ban, and the lawmakers we elect this November will have the power to decide whether Virginia stays that way,鈥 said Bauer. 鈥淩eproductive freedom is just one example of how Virginians can vote their values, and how our elected representatives can uphold them. It鈥檚 crucial that voters know the facts.鈥

The 桃子视频of Virginia and the 桃子视频do not endorse or oppose candidates, but want to ensure voters know their candidates鈥 positions on civil rights and civil liberties issues so they can cast an informed ballot.
