Seven people detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) sued the Trump administration over inhumane conditions at California鈥檚 largest immigration detention center, the privately owned California City Detention Facility located in Kern County. The lawsuit, Gomez Ruiz, et al. v. ICE, was filed in the U.S. District Court of Northern California and seeks to redress violations of the First Amendment, Fifth Amendment, and the Rehabilitation Act. The plaintiffs are represented by the Prison Law Office, Keker Van Nest & Peters LLP, the 桃子视频, and the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice.

Immigrants鈥� rights advocates sued the Trump administration over lack of access to legal counsel and violations of due process for people detained at Florida鈥檚 new, notorious Everglades immigration center, a hastily constructed facility on an abandoned airstrip in the middle of the wetlands in Ochopee.

ICE鈥檚 use of special management units, or solitary confinement, has prompted active concern and attention from Congress, the media, and advocates. On Dec. 6, 2024, ICE announced that it had issued policy updates for the use of special management units (SMU), or solitary confinement cells, for detained immigrants. ICE, however, has not made a copy of the updated policy publicly available. We鈥檝e sued to obtain a copy of this policy to better defend immigrants subject to solitary confinement in detention.
