The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ of Iowa filed a complaint with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission against The Iowa Department of Corrections for denying a nurse at the facility use of the restrooms and locker rooms that align with his gender identity and necessary medical treatment because he is transgender. The complaint was co-filed with the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµand cooperating attorney Melissa Hasso with the Sherinian & Hasso Law Firm in West Des Moines.

On March 29, 2018, the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ, the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ of Ohio, and Lambda Legal filed a lawsuit challenging Ohio’s refusal to correct the gender marker on birth certificates for transgender people, for any reason, at any time. Ohio is one of just three states, with Tennessee and Kansas, that has yet to change the extremely regressive and harmful policy. The lawsuit states that the Ohio government has violated the equal protection, due process, and free speech rights of Stacie Ray, Basil Argento, Ashley Breda, and a fourth, unnamed plaintiff.
