Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Filing Against Taco John's

The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ, ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµof South Dakota, and co-counsel Stephanie E. Pochop have submitted charges to state and federal agencies against Taco John's of Yankton, Inc. and Taco John's International Inc. The discrimination charges were filed on behalf of Tyler Brandt, a 16-year-old employee who was forced to wear a Gaytard name tag while working.

The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ and the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµof Pennsylvania have sent a letter requesting that school officials at Governor Mifflin School District in Berks County stop using Internet filters that violate students' First Amendment free speech rights. The district uses a sexuality filter that blocks sites that express support of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people, and an intolerance filter that blocks political advocacy sites that are labeled as intolerant.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a mother whose children attend one of the schools where the book was restricted.

As part of our Don't Filter Me campaign, the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ and the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµof Eastern Missouri filed a federal lawsuit against a school district in Camdenton, Missouri, whose Internet filtering software blocks access to web content geared toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities. The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµis joined in the lawsuit by LGBT organizations whose websites are blocked by the filter: Parents, Family and Friends of Lesbian and Gays (PFLAG), the Matthew Shepard Foundation, Campus Pride, and DignityUSA, a Catholic LGBT organization.

The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµseeks damages for Ceara and hopes to prevent gender discrimination in the future.
