Covarrubias v. Capt. Charlie's Seafood Inc.

The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµ, the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµof North Carolina and the North Carolina Justice Center filed a class action lawsuit and charges of discrimination against Capt. Charlie's Seafood, Inc. on behalf of three temporary H-2B visa workers for unlawfully restricting them to certain work solely because they are women. The class action lawsuit charged that the company underpaid H-2B visa workers and failed to reimburse them for visa and travel costs.

On September 8, 2009, the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµWomen's Rights Project and the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓÆµof Louisiana filed a lawsuit in a federal district court in Louisiana challenging the Vermilion Parish School District’s illegal sex segregation policy. The lawsuit charged that mandatory sex segregation in public schools violated Title IX of the Education Amendments, the Equal Education Opportunities Act and the U.S. Constitution. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a parent whose two children were placed in sex segregated classrooms without being offered equal coeducational options as required by law.
