The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ filed a federal lawsuit against the fifth largest health care system in the U.S., Dignity Health, because it denies transgender employees health insurance coverage for medically necessary transition-related health care.

The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ and the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵof Mississippi today filed a lawsuit to challenge HB 1523, the anti-LGBT law that passed this spring. The lawsuit, which targets the Registrar of Vital Records, was filed on behalf of ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵof Mississippi members and Nykolas Alford and Stephen Thomas, a gay couple who are engaged to be married and face discrimination as a result of this law.

The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ, the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵof the Nation's Capital, the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵof Kansas and civilian defense counsel David E. Coombs have filed a lawsuit on behalf of Chelsea Manning in federal court in the District of Columbia against Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and other Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of the Army officials for their failure to provide necessary medical treatment for her gender dysphoria, a condition with which she was originally diagnosed by Army doctors more than four years ago.

The ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵ and the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵof Minnesota filed a lawsuit in Minnesota State Court to challenge the coverage ban on transition-related surgery for transgender people on Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare, the state’s public insurance programs for low-income residents.

In May 2015, the ÌÒ×ÓÊÓƵfiled a federal lawsuit against the Michigan Secretary of State challenging a department policy that makes it impossible for many transgender individuals to correct the gender on their driver’s licenses and state identification documents. The court recognized in its November 2015 decision denying the State's motion to dismiss that plaintiffs have sufficiently alleged a constitutionally-protected privacy interest in avoiding disclosure of their transgender status because such disclosure poses a real threat to their 'personal security and bodily integrity.
