Summary
The ACLU, 桃子视频of Northern California, and 桃子视频of Southern California have filed a motion to intervene as Defendants in a suit brought by the Department of Justice against the Orange County, California Registrar of Voters, who refused to turn over voter file information except as required by law. The motion to intervene was filed on behalf of the League of Women Voters of California (LWVC) and two local chapters in Orange County, the League of Women Voters of Orange Coast (LWVOC) and the League of Women Voters of North Orange County (LWVNOC). LWVC has also moved to intervene in a related case, United States v. Weber, in which the Department of Justice seeks California鈥檚 entire statewide unredacted voter file. Concerns over unsubstantiated mass voter challenges and misuse of sensitive personal information have heightened the concerns of LWVC, LWVOC, and LWVNOC, organizations that conduct voter registration and provide voter education in Orange County and throughout California, and support the passage of laws that protect voter privacy.
If intervention is granted, the civil rights groups will seek to prevent the federal government from forcing Orange County to turn over unredacted voter information and to protect sensitive data within the voter rolls.
